When someone else has your keys

A bag taken on the street, a car window broken on Polk, a storefront door forced overnight. In this part of the city a lot of our calls start with something that already went wrong, and the job is to make sure it doesn't go wrong twice.

One visit, every lock that key opened

When a purse or a backpack is stolen, the thief has more than a wallet. They have the apartment key, the mailbox key, the car key, and often a piece of mail with the address on it. We treat it as one job: rekey the apartment door, change the mailbox lock, and make a new car key so the old one no longer starts the car. All in the same visit, so you are not waiting on three appointments while someone holds your keys.

The same goes for business owners along Polk and in the blocks below California Street. After a break-in, the storefront cylinder gets changed, the back door gets looked at, and if a panic bar or a strike plate was damaged on the way in, it gets fixed before the shop opens.

Steep streets, old buildings, careful work

Nob Hill and Russian Hill are full of apartment buildings from the 1920s with heavy entry doors, buzzer systems and unit doors that have been rekeyed a dozen times. Lockouts here are often two doors, not one: the street door and the apartment door. Tell us on the phone and the technician comes ready for both.

Parking is the other thing. We know where the van can stop on these hills, so the technician is at your door with the tools instead of circling the block.

How the price works

After a theft, the price depends on how many locks the stolen key opened: the apartment door, a mailbox, a car. We price the whole visit before we start.

Free on-site estimate on most jobs, and the final price is said before any work starts. You can still say no.

Questions from Nob Hill

My bag was stolen with my keys and my ID. What should I do first?
Call us, then your bank. We rekey the apartment door the same day so the key in that bag no longer works, and we can change the mailbox lock and make a new car key in the same visit.
The building door is locked too. Can you handle both?
Yes. Say so on the phone and the technician comes ready for the street door and your unit door.
Someone broke into my shop on Polk. How soon can you come?
Call now, any hour. We change the cylinder, check the back door and fix damaged hardware so you can open on time.
Do you work in the middle of the night here?
Yes. Nob Hill and the Polk corridor are regular night stops for the van.
