Offices that change hands, apartments that change tenants

Around Civic Center the work is turnover. A new tenant takes an office on Van Ness, a shop opens on Hayes, a unit in a Tenderloin building gets a new resident. Each one means the old keys have to stop working, and someone has to make that happen today.

Offices and shops

When a business moves into a suite, nobody knows how many keys the last tenant handed out. We rekey the suite door, set up a master key for the manager if several doors are involved, and give each person a key to their own door only. For shops in Hayes Valley it is the storefront cylinder, the back door and the office inside, usually done after closing so no one's day is interrupted.

Keypads and electric strikes come up a lot in this part of town, for offices that want a code instead of a key and a door that buzzes open from the front desk.

Apartments and cars

The Tenderloin is dense apartment buildings, and the calls are what you would expect: locked out, key snapped in the door, a tenant who needs the lock changed. We open without damage, rekey or replace, and get the building door too when it is part of the problem.

Car keys are a steady part of the work here as well. Spares for people who park on the street and don't want to be one lost key away from a problem, and full replacements when the only key is gone.

How the price works

Office rekeys are priced by the number of doors and whether you want a master key. Apartment lockouts and rekeys follow our usual rules: price at the door, before work.

Free on-site estimate on most jobs, and the final price is said before any work starts. You can still say no.

Questions from Civic Center

We're moving into an office near Civic Center. What should we do about keys?
Put every door on fresh keys on day one and set up a master key for management. We can do it in one visit, after hours if you prefer.
Can the front desk buzz people in without a key?
Yes. An electric strike on the door and a button at the desk, with a keypad or key for after hours.
I'm locked out of my apartment in the Tenderloin. Do I need ID?
Yes, something with the address, or a lease. If it is inside, we open first and you show it before we leave.
Can you make a spare key for my car?
Yes, and it is the cheapest car key job there is. Copying a working key costs far less than replacing a lost one.
